Massanutten, VA

A hidden gem only a stone’s throw from I-81 in Virginia, Massanutten is found at the base of Massanutten Mountain. Located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Massanutten is a town with over 200 years of history and plenty of things to do. With earliest records dating back to 60 years before Independence, the community was established and named in 1801 just as the United States was establishing itself as a nation. Years later, the community would remain relatively unscathed as the Civil War raged around it. Today, it is a beautiful little community to visit in the heart of central Virginia, and it makes a great base camp for adventures throughout the Shenandoah Valley.

Go back over 150 years in the past, starting on a trip through history at Cave Hill Farm. Next, visit another piece of America’s history as you take a trip to the site of the Battle of Cross Keys. Walk the same ground that Union and Confederate soldiers walked as part of “Stonewall” Jackson’s Valley Campaign. The true highlight of the area is Shenandoah National Park where you can explore mountains older than the Atlantic Ocean or take a hike along the Appalachian Trail that runs the length of the Park.

If you are coming to Massanutten with the family, visit the Massanutten Resort. In the warmer months, take a kayaking or canoeing trip on the Shenandoah River or, in the colder months, enjoy ice skating at the rink or skiing on the slopes. With both indoor and outdoor features, you can enjoy the water park, regardless of the season. When the weather gets cold, your family will still be able to ride the Blue Ridge Rapids inside the Massanutten Resort Water Park, or relax in the Shenandoah Hot Springs. To explore more of Virginia, stay at one of our Shenandoah Valley resorts.
